Dear little loves,
Once upon a time, there was a girl that turned into a woman-overnight. She woke up one morning to news that her world would change forever. She felt so many emotions – fear, excitement, nervousness, worry, and as the day went by she waited for the clock to strike 4:00 and her world to turn upside down.
That girl, the one that magically changed into a woman overnight, was none other than your sweet mother. And when the clock struck Four, my world was changed by both of you. I will never forget the sound of your cries and the sweet tears your daddy and I shared before we gathered our emotions and proudly showed you to the world. I was terrified bringing you home. Your father drove 35 miles per hour on the interstate because we never knew the way it felt to be so responsible.
Truth be told, I still feel that fear and worry many days. I’m not even sure that I can type adequate words to describe how my heart feels about you, or the moment you gave me the title of Mother. I beam with pride watching you learn and become so curious about the world around you. You have the best smiles, the best laughs, and the best hearts.
I need you to know that one day, when you have to step out into the real world and away from my safety net, it won’t be easy. Life is hard and the world can be cold. Stay true to yourself. Honor your body, your heart, and your mind. Cheer for the underdog, because it just may be you sometime. Know that you will never regret giving up something to help someone else and realize that you have no control over what they choose to do with it. People are going to break your heart, and when they do, I’ll be there. I hate the thought of seeing you shed tears, but I know how it makes your soul that much sweeter after it’s over.
Your Daddy loves you more than anyone else, but he won’t ever like your boyfriends. Just know it and accept it. Pray every second you get, and pray for others, because its the best gift you can give to anyone. We can both realize that one day you are going to hate me and our relationship will be trying. At some point we will lifelong friends. Make sure when you go to bed at night, you’re satified with what you did that day – both in your work and in your heart. One day, someone will come into your life and sweep you completely off your feet. Its an amazing feeling and I cannot wait for the phone call when you tell me “I met The One, Mama”.
Keep God first. Every day. Every second of everyday, because thats really all you have. Know that this life and everything in it is secondary to your relationship with Him. Make your priority in life to hear, “Well Done, good and faithful servent”. Challenge yourself. Travel the world. Be afraid of something and overcome your fears. Call your mom just to talk. Know that it’s ok to eat ice cream for dinner. Love yourself.
You’re the bright spot in my day, since 4:00 and 4:01 on a Wednesday in October you have been. You bring me an indescribable joy. There are days you make me want to pull my hair out and I absolutely dread your middle school drama years, but I wouldn’t change a single moment that I have had or will have with you. I love you, forever and always.
